Can spectrophotometer be used for measuring luminescence?

Hey friends,

We want to perform Luciferine-Luciferase assay in our laboratory. We have UV-Vis spectrophotometer. But we do not have any lumino meter. Can this spectrophotometer in transmission mode be used for detecting luminescence?

It is not advisable, since you will get interference from the light source in the spectrophotometer. Unless you perform a blank run beforehand, or else set the excitation shutters completely closed if possible, you need an actual luminescence spectrometer.
